But it’s not been all that bad!
As I read back through my journal, 2020 has actually been a great year! There have been so many low points for us all; the virus arriving, going into lockdown, wearing masks and being unable to spend time with family and friends as we normally would. We’ve certainly lived through history this year and COVID will be talked about for years to come.
On the whole 2020 has been full of some really big and memorable occasions and I’d love to share mine with you.
January 2020
Okay, so 2020 didn’t get off to the best start as my gorgeous doberman Tilly ran into a busy road and got hit by a car! She was a very lucky girl, coming away with only a broken leg (albeit a very bad one)! A week at the vets, an external metal frame, an extra £2k spent on top of the insurance and weeks of healing and she was soon back on her feet.
February 2020
We made a BIG decision in February (well actually it was October 2019 when we initially made the decision that we would move back to Devon). February however, marks the month that we put our house (in Corsham, Wiltshire) up for sale. We felt it was time to put down some roots and enjoy life with family and friends living close by and moving back to Devon is the perfect place to do this.
March 2020
A month none of us will ever forget! The month we were told we were heading into lockdown due to the COVID-19 virus. It was also during March that we sold our house (for the full asking price), the week before lockdown would you believe.
April 2020
Investing in my business has always been very important to me so it was a no brainer when Holly Bray of A Branch of Holly invited me to join her Busy to Boss Academy. It’s been so wonderful to meet so many amazing business owners and be a part of a wonderful community of gorgeous ladies! We have our virtual Christmas party on Thursday and I cannot wait.
May 2020
In May we moved to Devon!! There has been no place I’d rather be than back home and close to family and friends. Walking on the beach, through the beautiful countryside and making the most of the fresh air which I really did take for granted when I used to live here.
May also saw us welcome a new family member – our second doberman Albert.
June 2020
I launched my Asana Power Hour!
Woohoo we found our dream home!! Now if that isn’t huge I don’t know what is!! We had 2 viewings on an old farm house in Bideford which is a complete renovation project which I’ll admit, I was a little scared of at first as there is so much work to do, but it has SO much potential. The house has a HUGE garden with the most amazing views down to the estuary. It really is the dream home and the reason why we made the move back to Devon.
July 2020
July was a crazy month of enquiries and also 3 new legal clients. I would say that this was when the legal side of my business really started to take off.
I also found out I’m going to be an auntie again.
August 2020
August saw work quieten down but Catherine Gladwyn (my VA mentor) booked an Asana Power Hour and asked me if I wanted to do a Mastermind in December for the new expert membership – hell yes, sign me up!
September 2020
I joined Catherine’s new group “The Expert Membership”, welcomed 4 new clients and 2 new associates.
Oh and I’m going to be an auntie again! No, i’m not repeating myself, my other brother and sister in law are expecting their first baby in March 2021! I’m absolutely over the moon though as I love being an auntie.
We also became the proud owners of Thornlands Farm – let the renovations commence!
October 2020
Welcomed more enquiries and new clients and celebrated 2 years of running my own business – I absolutely love it.
November 2020
Gained clients and had to lose a client as there were too many red flags and it turned out me and my associate just couldn’t support their needs! I also welcomed my third associate and my new nephew Renz Jesse Sturman arrived into the world on the 30th November and is absolutely gorgeous.
December 2020
And here we are in December. Where did that year go? I can honestly say it’s been an amazing year for my business. I sent out my highest ever invoice last week and December is my best income month yet, I even went £1k over my target.
My word for 2020 was GROWTH and that has certainly happened by taking on 3 associates and new clients.
My word for 2021 (at the moment) is VIDEO as I want to get more creative next year and get myself known as the go to Legal Virtual Assistant.
I did a blog similar to this last year as I think it’s really important to look back to see how far you’ve come. I keep a journal and write down my thoughts (not every day but just when something needs saying).
I journal my highs, lows, wins and losses and also have a 2020 timeline project set up in Asana so that I can keep track of wins and important things that have happened.
If you’ve taken the time to read this blog, thank you so much!
I will take this opportunity to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for 2021 (let’s hope we can get back to some sort of normality!!)
