5 awesome and simple methods to follow when planning for an event

By kelliesimpson | January 20, 2020 | 0
Lady sat at table with a notebook and phone planning for an event.

When it comes to planning for an event, making sure it’s success is not only important for you and your company, it’s also great to come away at the end knowing you made it all happen.  But making it all happen on your own, with other work commitments and daily challenges going on, isn’t going…

It’s so nice to be on holiday when the only deci It’s so nice to be on holiday when the only decisions of the day are:

1. What bikini to wear;

2. What sun bed to lie on;

3. What time to crack open the first beer of the day; and

4. What time we’re preparing dinner.

No work, no emails, no worries, no stress.

Just complete chill.

We arrived back last Thursday (to rain!) and I took the rest of the week off to make the most of my break.

AND this is the beauty of having your own PA.  Without one, I wouldn’t have been as care free.

With enough planning and a handover before you go, you can really wind down and enjoy your break knowing things are being taken care of.

Whilst I was off my PA, Emma Portor actioned the following:

✅ Monitored my inbox and responded to emails

✅ Scheduled meetings

✅ Onboarded 2 new clients

✅ Drafted a team newsletter

✅ Liaised with my team whenever they had any queries

Emma was on my out of office so any queries or questions from clients - they know they can reach out to her.

Emma has been my PA for 3 years now and I’ve been outsourcing client work to my team for 5 years. Without my amazing team around me - work-free holidays would not exist.  @tilbamarketing

Building this structure over the last 5 years is something I’m really proud of.

When Rob asked me recently if I wanted to work with him at Adviserly…

It was a HUGE “YES - of course, I’d bloody love to work with you”.

This week I start my new role as Events Manager for Adviserly.

I love planning, I love events and I absolutely love working with Rob.

I’d say my first memory of us “hitting it off” was over a pirate martini at one of our mutual client’s summer party lunch.

And it’s been a blossoming work/friendship ever since.

I’ve worked with MANY lawyers over my 26 year legal career and Rob is one of those lawyers I instantly clicked with and is a pleasure to support, with both his corporate lawyer and Adviserly hats on.

Having been Aviserly’s gold sponsor last year, for the relaunch and boutique pioneers event I know how much of a good fit this is for me.

I know many of the members, some are friends, and some are clients present and past.

I’m so proud of Rob for what he’s building with Adviserly and at these early stages it’s great to be a part of the Adviserly family.

Thanks also to Magda for the warm welcome - look forward to working closely with you too.

So this is me showing my soft and caring side today as I really do value good people who come into my life such as Rob and who make running a business so enjoyable.

So proud to have been on this journey with you and to see how Adviserly is evolving. This is just the beginning 🫶🏻

Why time away from work is so much easier when you Why time away from work is so much easier when you have a team in place to keep things running 🙌🏻

Batteries are fully recharged after a mini Menorca Hols with my best friend!

Whilst I’ve been away my PA has:

• Looked after my inbox
• Arranged calls
• Created and sent out all our invoices
• Co-ordinated new work enquiries
• Liaised with the team
• Started onboarding a new client

And I have PAs (aka my team) in place to support ALL our clients, which means I can be away and not need to worry about client work.

✔️ I’ve built my business this way.

✔️ I’ve created a foundation, structures and processes that mean I can take time out and nothing falls apart.

Back to work today, and for me it’s always nice to get back into routine ☺️

Going to miss my daily Aperol Spritz tho! 🍹
The next chapter is about to begin 🙊👀 I’v The next chapter is about to begin 🙊👀

I’ve had the last few months to really get my head around it.

However, to make it feel more real - I need to tell the world.

And to find out... you’ll need to swipe ➡️ 🤭

Scared, excited, nervous and full of excitement at the same time.

This is such an opportunity for us 🥰

I’ve always had the clearest vision of what our future looks like and this new chapter is really going to bring that future vision to life sooner than we thought.
✨ A week I won’t be forgetting in a hurry… ✨

Last week was one of those pinch‑me weeks, full of reflection, growth, inspiration and a whole lot of gratitude.

The first part of the week was spent at Lilypod for our Flourish mini VIP day 🌿 And honestly? It could not have been a more perfect setting for intention‑setting, reflection, celebration and mapping out our next‑level 2026 business blueprint.

Thank you @iam_sarahjepson for putting together such a lovely brea.

The pods - WOW, all built by my friend’s incredibly talented husband, they are just beautiful. @lilypod_escapes

Being completely off‑grid with no WiFi and no outside noise for 24 hours was such a powerful reminder of how much the right environment matters when you’re doing deep planning and big‑picture thinking.

Then it was off to Whatley Manor in Wiltshire for the Branded & Unstoppable event hosted by @belindafurneauxharris and wow, wow, WOW ✨ One of the most luxurious and beautifully curated events I’ve ever attended. @whatleymanor

I went along to learn more about building a magnetic brand… but what surprised me most was just how much I learned about what it really takes to deliver a high‑end, exceptional experience. Belinda truly blew me away.

I came away with so much clarity, especially the realisation that my current brand no longer fully represents me. It’s time for a lift, an evolution, and something that feels more aligned with where I’m going next.

We even created a mood board (which, coming from a legal background and using Home & Garden mags, was… challenging 😅), but it’s the start of an exciting process that will unfold over the coming weeks and months.

I wrapped up the week with a night away in Ilfracombe with my husband 💛 An early celebration of our 12th wedding anniversary, as he’ll soon be moving away for a new work project… but more on that another time.

A week of growth, love, vision and very full hearts ✨
